The Newness of the Spirit
But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 7:6
In Romans 6 and 7, the apostle Paul explains that in coming to Christ we die to the law. That is, we die to the idea that we can be saved by keeping the law. We die to the law as a binding covenant authority over us. The law is no longer the governing framework of our relationship with God. Having trusted in Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to enable us to live a life that fulfills the undergirding principle of the law—love. We now serve in the newness of the Spirit.
We simply cannot live in a Christlike way on our own or in our own abilities. Jesus wants to live His life through us by means of the Holy Spirit. He wants to do His work through us by the Holy Spirit. A Christlike attitude is one that isn’t focused on us but on doing the will of God. We can only do that through the power of the Holy Spirit within us.
Each day ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in knowing and doing God’s will. Ask the Spirit to fill you today and to have His complete way in your words, deeds, and actions.
All of Christ in all of you. You can never have more. You need never have less.
Major Ian Thomas
You will not come to Christ asking to be saved until you recognize and admit that you are a sinner against God and need a Savior to escape eternal judgment! The Law of God shows us that no one is guiltless except the Son of God, Jesus! All attempts to be righteous and holy fail to meet God’s perfect standard, therefore, we all need a righteous, holy and perfect Savior. Jesus gave His life, in our place, receiving what we deserve…death…that we might be given life in Him. This life can be lived because of the gift of the Holy Spirit to live within every person that believes in Jesus and His work on their behalf. The Spirt is God living within you and will lead, guide and direct your thoughts and actions if you will yield to Him and not live from your selfish earthly desires. Let us constantly look up, cry out to be released from the evil of this age, glorify God, who will carry us through this life into the next, to be with Him forever, face to face!
Rom 6:5-11
For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.
8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
