Seasons Change: Autumn

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

As Anne gazed at the glory of autumn in Anne of Green Gables, she couldn’t contain her delight. “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” she said.

When God created the world, He built seasons into the rotation. We experience them differently depending on where we live, but most of us recognize summer and winter, springtime and harvest (see Genesis 8:22).

In the Lord’s brilliant design, the shifting of the seasons also represents the cycle of our lives. What season of life are you in? If you look closely, you’ll find it’s beautiful. God does all things well. When He leads us through the seasons, two things happen. We grow in our maturity, and He grows more precious to us every day.

Look around you today and find some beautiful spot to rest your eyes—and praise the Lord. Look within you today, and find some sweet blessing to rest your heart—and praise the Lord.

It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November…. The world looks like something God had just imagined for his own pleasure, doesn’t it?

Anne of Green Gables

Eccl 3:1-6

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven —

2 A time to give birth and a time to die;

A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.

3 A time to kill and a time to heal;

A time to tear down and a time to build up.

4 A time to weep and a time to laugh;

A time to mourn and a time to dance.

5 A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;

A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.

6 A time to search and a time to give up as lost;

Indeed, there is an appointed time for everything.  Autumn is here! Leaves are turning, even beginning to fall.  It is a beautiful time of year.  And yet life goes on… accidents happen, doctor and hospital visits, unexpected bills, arguments with neighbors, even the death of a friend or family member.

I was at the jail last night, given opportunity to share from God’s Word the truth of His love for us.  This morning, I will be sharing at a graveside for a family that I have never met but who are in need of a pastor who loves God and loves the people that God created in His image.  Please pray for those in jail and this family that is without a husband, father, grandfather and friend.  May they all come to truly know Jesus, His love, comfort and peace that passes all understanding.

May our spiritual journeys lead from hearing about Jesus to knowing Him personally and placing our trust in Him for our lives, both now, and for all eternity!
