Love Not the World

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:15

If your house was on fire and you could only escape with one or two things, what would you save? We could ask the question a different way: When it comes time to depart this life, what would you like to take with you? In response to that question, we often hear it said, “You can’t take it with you.”

The truth is that we can’t take anything with us from this world. And our departure from this world will be made much easier if we have not loved the things of this world. After all, “the world is passing away, and the lust of it” (1 John 2:17). As evidence of the temporary nature of this world, “the grass withers, the flower fades” (Isaiah 40:8). Why are we told not to love the world we live in? Because “the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” (1 John 5:19), and we are not to be “conformed” to it (Romans 12:2).

Ask God to help you be attached to His Kingdom (Matthew 6:33) and detached from the things of this world.

Matt 6:31-33

31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?'  32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

When someone tells you not to worry, do they, like God, tell you what to do?  God is Sovereign and in control of all things.  We have experiences that we wish God would not allow us to go through, but they are allowed to mature us in faith and dependence on God.  Loving NOT the world is hard to do.  It comes at us from every direction to seek our attention, devotion, admiration…even worship.

Let us seek truth, pursue the heart of God and set our minds on things above and not the things of earth destined for destruction.  Find, discover and develop things that keep your mind and heart on God.  What are those things for you?  Daily devotions help, reading the Word of God yourself is better, speaking to God in prayer asking Him your difficult questions is what He wants from you!

Matt 22:37

" 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'

If you do this, you will not worry about the things of this world.
