 “THE TRUE GOSPEL”
I Corinthians 15:1-3ff

What is the true Gospel?  I’ve always been taught there are three points to the Gospel and technically that is true.  Paul said that he delivered to the Corinthians the Gospel he received and that is that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried according to the Scriptures and that He was raised again according to the Scriptures.  Please don’t omit the words following these three great events.  This entire statement comprises the glorious Gospel.

1.  Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.  Psalm 22, Isaiah 53:6

2.  Christ was buried and He rose again according to the Scriptures.     Psalm 16:9-11, 68:18

The Gospel that saves is the Gospel that is firmly rooted in the Old Testament scriptures.  In sharing the Gospel one has to identify the Jesus in question.  There are a lot of people named “Jesus” in the world.  None of them is able to save.  So we need to be very clear as to whom we mean.  It is the word that the Holy Spirit uses.  We must remember that important fact.  The Gospel according to the Scriptures is the Gospel we must present.

What can we expect to happen when we share this divine message?

1.  Some will stiff-arm the message.  They don’t see their need.

2.  Some will assent to the message, affirming the facts but they seem to fall short of embracing it for themselves.  All too often this is what happens.

3.  Some will submit to the ministry of the Holy Spirit and embrace the life-saving message and be saved.

So in conclusion I say with Paul:

I give you that which I first received.  That Christ died, was buried, and rose again, all according to the Scriptures.

Whosoever believes in Him will be truly saved because he has believed in the true Gospel.  God bless.

Love to you all,  Charles Covington

The love of God is in the gospel.  God so loves you that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Hear God speak.  Listen to the conviction of the Holy Spirit.  You are a sinner, in need of a Savior.  Jesus died as a sacrifice to pay for your sin.  He was buried and rose again victorious over death.  Jesus offers eternal life to those who will believe in Him.  Come, be adopted into the family of God through faith in Jesus.
